Hayling Island
WWII Heritage Trail

In early September 2012 we completed and opened the very first WWII Heritage Trail in the whole of the United Kingdom.

The trail features all the major elements of Hayling's WWII history, on 6 strategically placed information units along the south of the island with the COPP Heroes Memorial as its central point. The fit and active may follow it on foot or by cycle, while it is equally accessible by motor car.

The project was mainly funded by a grant from the now defunct South of England  Agency with assistance from Hampshire County Council and Havant Borough Council.

The Trail was opened by Douglas Sharp, who himself features on Unit 6 at Eastoke, together with the Mayor and Mayoress of the Station Theatre in September 2012.

We were most fortunate to have the support of mapmakers Codair Design & Publicity Ltd, who most generously prepared and donated the location map

used on the Heritage Trail.
